An Insider’s Guide to Fredericksburg Wine
Grown

with care

Nestled in the Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg’s rolling hills and winding roads are home to more kinds of blooms and bouquets than just the wildflowers that visit each spring. Now a premier destination in Texas Wine Country, Fredericksburg showcases a winemaking tradition generations in the making. Rooted in the town’s founding and evolving with each passing year, Fredericksburg wine is an experience to sip and savor.

Fredericksburg’s story of winemaking traces back to its early German settlers, who saw prospects in the rich soil and set out to make a life of their own. Although early settlers focused primarily on essential crops, they laid the groundwork for the area’s future in viticulture. The sunny days, cool nights, and limestone-rich soil proved ideal for growing a variety of grapes, setting the stage for Fredericksburg’s wine industry to take root.

Passion

into practice

It wasn’t until the late 70's that the Texas Hill Country’s wine industry began to fruit. Throughout the 1980s and 90s, the region gained more wineries like Becker Vineyards, Grape Creek Vineyards, and Pedernales Cellars, “who worked to establish the Hill Country as a destination for wine” appreciation, according to Texas Wine Growers,

These early winemakers faced numerous obstacles, particularly in adapting to Texas’s challenging climate. Focusing on grape varieties suited to Texas, they developed techniques to manage the region’s unique climate and steward the land—just as the German settlers had done generations before.

Beauty

in every bottle

There’s no taste like Fredericksburg wine, and for good reason. With passion in every glass, it’s a practice in patience. After all, good things take time. Between the limestone-rich soil and warm climate here, Fredericksburg’s grape varieties produce a flavor as unique as the town that grows it. The resulting wines’ bold, complex flavors capture the essence of the region.

Between the soil and the setting, from makers old to new, Fredericksburg wine country is an experience unlike any other. Something in the rolling hills, the live oak trees, is an invitation to stay a moment longer—to linger among the layered vines, enjoy the people, and listen to the breeze. An ease in its own right.

T
radition
