The COastal Code: Rules Every Texan
Should Know
On Alabama’s Beaches, we have a certain way of doing things: a Coastal Code. Is it a set of rules? Yes. Restrictions? Not a chance. They aren’t monitored or even written on signs, but they are written in the moments you make. Our Coastal Code invites you to savor sun-soaked mornings, breezy evenings, and all the fun that naturally occurs in between. Let’s start with Rule #71: Drop your flip-flops (or cowboy boots) on the boardwalk and run.

For Texans, an easy drive east delivers you to Gulf views, 32 miles of uncrowded shoreline, sugar-white sand, and turquoise tides. If you think you’ve seen beautiful beaches, wait until you see these. They’re closer than you think and prettier than you imagined. You’ll get it when you get here.
Beaches & Play
All Year Long
Spring
Spring
Rule #53
Squeaky white sand is the soundtrack of spring.
Alabama’s Beaches shine in the spring, and not just in the literal sense. Wide open beaches make it easy to settle into your perfect sandy spot to play, read, or follow Rule #22: Nap. Here, they aren’t just allowed, they’re enforced.

Anglers cast away with bated breath and baited lines to hook species like pompano, Spanish mackerel, and black drum near the shores, while a massive fleet of fishing charters is stocked and ready for offshore and deep-sea adventures.

Between casts and beach walks, spring is made for paddleboarding, kayaking, and boating. It’s a different world when you’re on the water—one you shouldn’t forgo. Quiet byways will bring you exactly what you need to recharge.
Rule #18
If there's a line outside a seafood restaurant, you better be in it.
No matter what time of day, make time to linger over fresh Gulf seafood. We recommend you consider Rule #18: If there’s a line outside a seafood restaurant, you better be in it. Whether it's a local hot spot or fine dining restaurants, you’ll taste the freshness of local Gulf favorites, including shrimp, oysters, crab, mahi, snapper, and grouper.

In case you need one, spring break is the perfect excuse to hit the coast. And let’s face it, spring break is just better at the beach, especially when there’s plenty of room to breathe, sunshine to soak in, and the just-right energy for a real getaway. Remember Rule #62: No reset button is needed for your spring break.
Rule #65
Summer memories are best when slightly sandy.
Summer
Summer on Alabama’s Beaches runs on a familiar, happy family routine: mornings in the water, afternoons chasing shade, and evenings that somehow turn into late nights. Days don’t need much planning—just beaches, sunscreen, swimsuits, sandcastle competitions, shell hunts, and “just one more swim” before calling it a day. Kids burn off energy, parents actually relax, and everyone ends up a little sun-tired in the best way. Rule #23 applies here: Everyone gets a turn burying Dad in the sand.

When the heat rises, the Gulf becomes your personal playground. Explore the underwater world with snorkeling and scuba diving, blaze across the water on rented jet skis, or soar above it all on a scenic parasailing adventure.

As the sun goes down, the volume goes up. Live music and seasonal concert series set the soundtrack for warm nights, casual dinners, and spur-of-the-moment plans that start with “Why not?” and end later than expected. Call it Rule #72: Bedtimes are flexible on vacation.

And for anglers, summer signals a big moment—Red Snapper season. Whether you’re casting off with a charter or swapping stories dockside, this is the kind of fishing season people plan around. Don’t forget Rule #41: Fish stories get bigger every time they’re retold.

Fall
Rule #56: Cozy sweaters are so overrated.

Fall beach days hit different on Alabama’s Beaches. Temperatures are more comfortable, crowds thin, and it’s the ideal excuse for a family escape that still feels like summer, just with more colorful sunsets.
Fall is prime time for fishing adventures—inshore and offshore fishing hit their stride, with peak conditions that locals and visitors plan around all year. Whether you’re casting from the shore, heading out with a charter, or just watching boats come in at sunset, this is fishing at its best.

Off the sand, The Wharf keeps things lively with shopping, dining, and entertainment that fit fall’s just-right energy. And when it comes to events, this season shows off. The Orange Beach Freedom Fest brings the classic cars, while the Annual National Shrimp Festival serves up Gulf flavor, live music, and plenty of reasons to loosen your belt one notch. Call it Rule #17: Fresh Gulf shrimp are better when shared…with no one.
Rule #81
Take the break you’ve earned.
Winter
Rule #36
That stuff that looks like snow is our sand.
Rules #69: Cold weather is optional.

‍Sugar-white sand is the closest thing you’ll find to snow at Alabama’s Beaches. While temps dip around the 60s, you’ll find it’s cool enough to be comfortable, but warm enough to keep the flip-flops in rotation. Unless, of course, you’re trading them in for a set of golf shoes.

Winter is prime time to play the fairways, with championship courses offering Gulf breezes, and tee times that don’t require beating the heat. Off the course, outdoor dining never takes a season off—waterfront patios, fresh Gulf seafood, and sunset dinners are all still very much on the table. Especially because Rule #51 says: Sunsets aren’t just watched, they’re celebrated.
Rule #80
The only thing better than your score is what comes after.
When you’re ready to mix things up, shopping, museums, and coastal attractions keep days full without ever feeling rushed. Even on the occasional gray day, there’s plenty to do beyond the shoreline. Call it Rule #70: The beach doesn’t hibernate. It just knows how to do winter better.
Plan Your Stay
Rule #34: If you forget what day it is, stay one more to figure it out.

Put the cherry on top of your beach experience with accommodations that fit your vibe. From spacious beach house rentals and cozy condos to laid-back hotels just steps from the sand and Gulf resorts Alabama’s Beaches make it easy to settle in.

No matter when you visit, the Coastal Code still applies. Play leads the way, plans stay flexible, and the best moments are the ones you don’t overthink. Don't forget Rule#57: The early bird gets the primo beach spot, so book your next trip now.
